Anger mounts among Kharghar residents over robbery and shooting in Sector 35

Anger mounts among Kharghar residents over robbery and shooting in Sector 35

Calls for more police patrols and greater security are gaining momentum

Kharghar: The recent increase in criminal activities, including burglary, theft and robbery, has prompted residents of Kharghar to call for increased police patrols and improved security infrastructure. The latest incident, an organized gang robbery with gunfire in Sector 35, has particularly raised concerns in the community.

Mangal Kamble, founder and chairperson of Swachh Kharghar Foundation, has reached out to Milind Bharambe, the police commissioner, to address the issue. She said, “I have written to Milind Bharambe, expressing my concern over the increase in cases of burglary, theft and robbery. He has acknowledged the public concern and hopefully, serious consideration will be given to increasing police patrols during the afternoon, evening and late night. Kharghar is also home to many elderly, vulnerable senior citizens whose safety is our concern. With the festive season approaching, such incidents should be prevented by strict vigilance by the police and the public.”

Kharghar resident Rajesh Patil stressed the need for better security measures in Sector 35 and its surroundings, which have witnessed significant growth. He said, “The area has expanded rapidly and we need a full-fledged police station, traffic police to manage traffic and parking, regular patrolling of police vehicles and even a post office.”

He added: “The increase in robberies in crowded places indicates a worrying lack of fear of government authorities, including the police. These criminals appear to be emboldened by the absence of police presence.”

Sunita Deshmukh, another resident of Kharghar, pointed out the possible role of informants, possibly illegal shopkeepers in Sectors 34 and 35, who may be supporting criminal activities. She said, “The confidence and actions of these criminals, as seen in videos, suggest no fear of consequences. If such individuals operate without fear, it raises serious concerns about our future security. Effective measures are needed to address this problem.”

Reflecting on the broader deterioration of security in Kharghar, Vishal Mehta noted the rise in drug cases, accidents, violent robberies, illegal felling of trees and water mafia activities. He said, “Ensuring the safety of the residents of Kharghar is a top priority. Installing CCTV cameras in all sectors of Kharghar can significantly improve the security measures. Authorities should expedite the installation of these cameras across the area. This move will help deter criminal activities and provide a sense of security to the residents.”

Mangal Kamble stressed the urgency of addressing security issues, pointing to recent incidents including the brutal murder of two young women and a gang robbery at 10 pm. She said, “The government has spent a significant amount of money on schemes like Majhi Ladki Bhahin Yojna, but security should be a priority. It is crucial that the police patrol the city at least at night to prevent such incidents.”

Politics Breaking News: Chancellor of the Exchequer announces cuts to plug ‘£20bn black hole’ – as deadline approaches for Conservative Party leadership race | Politics News

There are few things that have been discussed as much in politics in recent years as the Conservative Party leadership election. The next election officially begins this afternoon, when nominations close and the full list of candidates is announced.

We expect an announcement around 2:30 PM. In the meantime, we already know who will be participating:

The Essex MP, a former Home, Education and Foreign Secretary, was a loyal lieutenant to both Boris Johnson and Rishi Sunak.

Part of his duties as Minister of the Interior was the plan to send asylum seekers to Rwanda. He reportedly had reservations about this in private.

Last year he caused controversy and was forced to apologize after making a joke about rape on a date, admitting it may have undermined the government’s work to tackle smoking alcohol in drinks.

The former security and military minister is highly regarded within the One Nation group of moderate Conservative MPs.

However, he has said he is considering leaving the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR) if it is “not in our interest”. This change in his position is seen as an appeal to the party’s rights.

Tugendhat is known for his aggressive stance towards China, although this became less strict once he came to power.

Mr Jenrick has held a number of ministerial positions, including Secretary of State for Communities and Minister for Immigration.

He resigned from the latter party over Sunak’s Rwanda bill, saying it was not robust enough.

His time as Communities Secretary was overshadowed by his fast-tracking of a £1bn housing scheme proposed by a Conservative donor.

He has been a long-standing ally of Sunak and was dubbed ‘the minister of the morning round’ during the general election campaign, having had more media contact than any of his colleagues.

He was Minister for Work and Pensions during Sunak’s premiership and has stayed on to oversee that role ever since.

He also served as Chancellor of the Exchequer for a time, as well as Paymaster General, during Theresa May’s tenure in Number 10. Between 2019 and 2022 he was Chairman of the Treasury Select Committee.

Dame Priti is seen as one of the more traditional right-wing MPs within the Conservative Party.

She has put herself forward as a candidate to reunite the party, stressing that “authentic” conservative values such as defending freedom, encouraging entrepreneurship, protecting people and spreading opportunity are still popular with the public.

Dame Priti, who has remained loyal to Boris Johnson, has promised that under her leadership members would be rewarded for their loyalty with a greater say in the policy and direction of the party.

The former Minister of Economic Affairs is seen as a darling of the right and has impressed some within the party with her down-to-earth approach.

Ms Badenoch has pledged to “get back to telling the truth” and wants to renew the party by 2030 by reaffirming “our belief in the nation state and its sovereign duty, above all, to serve its own citizens”.

Ms Badenoch has spoken out on issues including women’s rights, equality and identity politics.

When Endia Patterson, founder of Golden Soul Esthetics, decided to change her career path as a brand influencer and delve into the beauty and aesthetics industry, she was driven by a deep-rooted passion to help others feel confident and beautiful. Known as “the beauty girl” among her family and friends for her extensive knowledge of skin, hair, and makeup, Endia’s journey from California to Dallas marked the beginning of a transformative adventure. Just four days after her move, she enrolled in beauty school on March 15, 2021, and has since built a thriving business dedicated to providing top-notch skincare treatments.

We had the chance to interview Endia Patterson about her unique perspective on self-care and how she managed to build a thriving business:

What inspired you to become an entrepreneur in the beauty and aesthetics industry and how did you turn that inspiration into a successful business?

My journey into the beauty and aesthetics industry was driven by a passion to help others feel confident and beautiful in their own skin. Growing up, I always had an interest in beauty treatments and my family considered me “the beauty girl” because I always had the answers to all the questions about skin, hair, and makeup. When I decided to move from California to Dallas, I wanted to explore different career fields to see what I could pursue and if the beauty industry was the best fit for me. I moved here on March 11, 2021 and started cosmetology school on March 15, 2021 and it has been a wonderful journey ever since.

Can you share some of the biggest challenges you faced when starting Golden Soul Esthetics and how you overcame them?

My biggest challenge was finding the perfect location. I initially thought my business had to be in the city to thrive, but that wasn’t true. I found a beautiful location in Prosper, TX, close to home, and have been successful in running my business there. It was also a challenge to attract clients; I had to push myself out of my comfort zone to promote and talk about my services. I overcame these challenges by staying motivated, constantly looking to improve, and striving to provide my clients with the best possible experience.

How do you stay up to date with the latest trends and innovations in skin care, so you can ensure your clients receive the best possible treatments?

I stay up to date with the latest trends and innovations in skincare by constantly researching what catches people’s attention. Social media is a valuable tool; by searching hashtags related to aesthetics, I can see the latest trends and techniques that my colleagues are using in their treatment rooms. I also regularly watch webinars and online classes to keep my knowledge fresh and up to date so that I can provide the best treatments for my clients.

What role does social media play in growing your business? And how can you use social media to connect with and inform your customers?

Social media has been instrumental in the growth of my business. It allows me to showcase my work, share skincare tips, and connect directly with my current and prospective clients. By posting high-quality images, videos, and client testimonials, I continually attract new clients and build trust with my existing clients. I utilize social media platforms, especially Instagram, to connect with and educate my clients by showing them more of my personality and BTS of my treatment room so they know what to expect during their appointment with me. Staying active in the beauty and aesthetics community not only improves client relationships, but also helps establish Golden Soul Esthetics as a trusted brand.

As a successful entrepreneur, how do you balance the demands of running a business with your personal life? And what strategies do you use to maintain that balance?

Balancing the demands of running a business with your personal life requires effective time management and self-care. I prioritize tasks and delegate when possible so that my business runs smoothly without overwhelming myself. Setting boundaries, such as dedicated work hours and personal time, helps me maintain a healthy work-life balance. I always make sure my cup is full to give my clients what they deserve during their facial with me. Additionally, I make time for activities that I enjoy, such as running outdoors and spending time with my family, to stay physically and mentally refreshed. These strategies help me maintain balance and my passion for both my business and my personal life.

New calls for changes to Carer’s Allowance weekly earning limit as charity complies with DWP

New calls for changes to Carer’s Allowance weekly earning limit as charity complies with DWP

The UK government has promised a plan to “put things right” over the overpayments made to carers, which have led to many unknowingly building up unmanageable debts and some leaving their jobs as a result. The problem of people being penalised for exceeding their Carer’s Allowance earning limit by even just a few pence a week has been branded a “scandal” by a charity.

Carers UK said some people owed “hundreds, thousands and sometimes tens of thousands of pounds” to the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP). The organisation said “many carers” had told them they felt they had to quit their jobs as a result of being overpaid and “many more” had cut their hours and turned down pay rises for fear of going over the earning threshold.

The charity has called for “concrete changes” to the system, including raising the earnings threshold for the benefit, debt cancellation in certain cases and clearer information and communication with carers.

A government report written in 2021 but only published in May this year suggested that 3 per cent of their sample of claimants had been overpaid on Carer’s Allowance. With around 1.3 million people receiving Carer’s Allowance, the charity Carers Trust said this could amount to tens of thousands of people being overpaid.

The then chairman of the Work and Pensions Committee, Sir Stephen Timms, said the issue was leaving people “in need” and the report called on the then government to “tackle the problem”.

Carers UK announced on Monday that it had met with Sir Stephen to launch the report into the devastating impact of the problem.

The report said: “Urgent action is needed to prevent carers from facing the financial hardship and ill health that repaying overpayments can cause. It is the length of time and therefore the size of the overpayments that makes it particularly difficult to repay the debts.

“Carers UK has been campaigning for changes to Carer’s Allowance since 2018 and was part of the original work with the Select Committee and the NAO. We have repeatedly reported overpayments to the DWP.”

The weekly amount of Carer’s Allowance is £81.90 and the earning limit is £151 per week in 2024/25.

According to the Carers UK report, as of mid-May 2024, 134,800 people had outstanding Carer’s Allowance debts, worth a total of £251 million.

There were 34,500 overpayments due to informal carers exceeding the earnings limit in 2023/24, and seven in ten (70%) of the overpayments were due to the earnings limit.

Speaking ahead of the meeting, Sir Stephen, now the Minister for Social Security and Disability, said: “Our country would grind to a halt without the millions of carers who provide care and continuity of support to vulnerable people every day.

“We recognise the challenges they face and we are committed to giving unpaid carers the support they deserve. Meeting with organisations like Carers UK and individual carers and hearing their views and experiences is essential to help us establish the facts and make informed decisions.

“Regarding the overpayment of Carer’s Allowance, we are working quickly to find out exactly what went wrong so we can put a plan in place to put things right.”

Helen Walker, Chief Executive of Carers UK, said: “We are delighted that Sir Stephen Timms is listening to carers and taking this opportunity to talk to us.

“We have extensive evidence of the devastating impact this has on the lives of thousands of carers and are encouraged that he has a clear understanding of the key issues involved. Caring often limits your ability to earn a full income and adds extra costs that you would not otherwise have.

“It is a scandal that so many caregivers, who have unknowingly received too much, are experiencing additional stress and anxiety. Many are already under enormous pressure and are in a precarious financial position because of their caring role.

“It is heartbreaking to hear of cases where debts of thousands of pounds have been built up. This has been happening for years and the government has not done enough to fundamentally change the situation. It simply cannot continue.”

The goal of Beef 706, which was founded more than 30 years ago, is to educate cattle producers about the food side of livestock production and how to use best management practices to improve beef quality and increase profitability. The event is organized by the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service and the Texas A&M Department of Animal Science and sponsored by the Texas Beef Council.

From live animals to carcasses, knowing the factors that affect the quality of beef products can help beef industry leaders provide consumers with a better product, said Drew Cassens, Ph.D., a meat specialist with AgriLife Extension and assistant professor in the Department of Animal Sciences at Bryan-College Station.

“We’re trying to educate producers about beef production practices and how they relate to the end product; that’s the overall goal,” Cassens said.

Registration costs $50 and can be completed online. Cassen said they invite ranchers, educators and affiliated business people to register for the educational program. Each session will be limited to about 40-45 people to allow for hands-on participation.

On the agenda

The various lessons are taught by meat science teachers and staff from the Animal Sciences department.

The speakers and the topics they will cover are:

— Jason Bagley, senior manager of beef resources for the Texas Beef Council, Austin: Beef Checkoff update.

— Dan Hale, Ph.D., AgriLife Extension associate director of agriculture and natural resources and meat specialist, Bryan-College Station: Appetite for Beef, and From Finished Steer to Carcass on the Grill.

— Cassens: Classification of beef carcasses, video on market cattle.

— Jason Cleere, Ph.D., AgriLife Extension cattle specialist and associate professor, Bryan College Station: Market Cattle Evaluation.

— Ray Riley, manager of the Rosenthal Meat Science and Technology Center, Bryan-College Station: Beef harvest floor demonstration.

— Davey Griffin, Ph.D., AgriLife Extension meat science specialist and professor, Bryan College Station: Beef cutting, forequarter and hindquarter preparation, finished steer to packaged beef value.

— Ron Gill, Ph.D., AgriLife Extension beef specialist and professor, Stephenville: Beef Calf Quality Management; Different Grades of Beef in the Marketplace – Definition of conventional, frozen, natural, feed-finished, and organic beef.

— Joe Paschal, Ph.D., retired AgriLife Extension livestock specialist and professor emeritus, Corpus Christi: Genetic Selection Tools for Producing Quality Beef.

Police are investigating a confrontation between two groups of people at a beautiful spot in Derbyshire.

CCTV footage shows sticks being waved and blows being thrown on the stepping stones in Dovedale.

Officers have confirmed they received reports of a fight at 2:30pm on Saturday, which included allegations that a child had been punched.

The stones, which are among the Peak District’s most popular attractions, are officially closed pending repairs after damage caused by a winter storm.

A Derbyshire Police spokesman said: “We received a call just before 2.40pm (BST) on Saturday 27 July about a confrontation between two groups at Dovedale Stepping Stones, near Tissington in the Peak District.

“The caller reported that a child in his group had been hit by a car during the disturbance and that an attempt had been made to steal his wife’s bag.

“We are aware of a video of the incident circulating online and there were many people in the area at the time of the incident who may have information that could assist our investigation.”

‘Disturbing for visitors’

The land is owned by the National Trust, which said: “An incident occurred at the Stepping Stones in Dovedale this weekend when two groups of walkers attempted to cross the stepping stones in opposite directions.

“The situation was resolved quickly, but we understand that these types of disruptions can be annoying for visitors.

“We urge people to treat each other with respect when exploring the outdoors.

“We would also like to remind visitors that the Stepping Stones are currently closed due to storm damage and there are signs in place asking people not to use them.”

A spokesman for Derbyshire County Council, the organisation responsible for the repairs, said it was still in the process of obtaining permission from Natural England to work on the site.

Blocked lines: MTN subscribers besiege service centres

Blocked lines: MTN subscribers besiege service centres

Many of them told Newsmen in interviews that their phone lines were blocked over the weekend, reportedly due to the NIN-SIM link.

They told Newsmen that they had already linked their NIN to their SIM and wondered why their lines were still blocked.

According to Ms Kemi Olawale, an entrepreneur, her line was closed without prior notice.

Olawale explained that she tried the self-service link sent to customers by the network provider, but it did not work.

“My line was blocked without any notification, no message was sent and I was given a number to call to connect. I did so but it said the number was awaiting verification.

“I called but was told to come to the physical office. I came here on Sunday at 8am and waited until noon but was not helped.

“MTN must ensure that its virtual self-service options work efficiently,” she urged.

Also, Mr Tunde Bolakale, a businessman, said the blocking of his line had paralysed his business, adding that his office was in Ijora and it would be a waste of time to go there without his tools.

“I sell frozen products in bulk and I receive notifications and make transfers through the same line.

“As it stands now, I can’t even reach the people who deliver my goods for me. That means my business is down for the time being unless I get another subscription to another network,” he said.

Ms Temiloluwa Ajayi, who works in the private sector, similarly said that since her job was blocked, she could no longer monitor the payment of her salary.

“The line is connected to all my businesses, and without the line I cannot function.

“It is also linked to my salary account, but how can I be sure that I will get my line back, given the crowd?

“If I get a new line, it will also be a long process to reconnect it to all my businesses, especially the road to the bank,” she said.

Other subscribers expressed their displeasure about the blocking of lines by telecom providers on the networks’ social media pages.

A look at the X pages and Instagram accounts of telecom companies revealed that subscribers had complaints about the blocking issue.

On Instagram, an MTN subscriber with the username ‘Contextureedge’ said: “What is the reason MTN is blocking lines despite being linked to NIN?”

Eyibio_Joshua also took to Instagram to express his displeasure, saying he could not make calls or send emails because MTN had blocked him.

He urged MTN to resolve the issue immediately.

Also ireachgraphic on Instagram reported that MTN continued to block numbers that were already linked to NIN.

On Airtel X’s page, a subscriber with the username TemmyDaSilva complained that her number was blocked a few days ago. She wondered how many times the telecom provider wanted her number to be linked.

Similarly, a Glo subscriber on Instagram, Mercy Simeon_ said: “I sincerely want to know why my line is blocked for nothing.”

Responding, Mr Gbenga Adebayo, Chairman of the Association of Licensed Telecommunications Operators of Nigeria (ALTON), said the deadline for the registration of the NIN/SIM link was earlier fixed at July 31, 2024.

Adebayo responded in a press release made available to Newsmen on Monday in Lagos. It was jointly signed by himself and the Executive Secretary of ALTON, Mr Gbolahan Awonuga.

ALTON is the official trade association for all providers of telecommunications and related services in Nigeria.

Its members include all major telecommunications licensees in Nigeria, particularly those providing voice and data telephony services, but also those providing ancillary and other related value added services.

According to him, the harmonization of the SIM registration database and the national identity database had been underway for several months.

He said the harmonisation was aimed at improving the integrity of the national SIM registration database.

ALTON chairman said: “Customers whose lines have been blocked recently are those who have been blocked by their service providers.
found a mismatch between their data in both databases.

“We advise such customers to contact their service providers through the communicated channels to resolve the issue.

“However, all operators have taken steps to ensure that anyone whose line is blocked can unblock it.”

“I encourage subscribers to follow some simple steps. For Airtel: Dial *121# and enter your 11-digit NIN number. The subscriber will receive a confirmation

message that he/she has successfully unblocked the Airtel SIM card.

“For EMTS: 9Mobile: dial *200*8#, and for Glo: dial *109*Your NIN#. For example, if your NIN is 12345678901, dial *109*12345678901#.

“Then follow the prompts to submit your NIN for linking,” he said.

According to Adebayo, if an MTN line is blocked, the subscriber only needs to go to nin.mtn.ng to check the NIN status. If the line is not linked, the subscriber needs to link the line.

“During the process an OTP would be requested as well as the NIN. After you have given your consent and submitted the NIN link request, this will be done and the line will be automatically

unhindered.

“For Smile: Send your valid NIN to (email protected) or call 07020444444, you will be asked to

give permission. After receiving the customer’s permission and successful verification of NIN, the line will

unhindered.

“For Spectranet: Dial toll free number 8002345678 and submit your NIN but you need to get your KYC done on

Spectranet store.

“Customers can go to the Spectranet website and submit their NIN online, but to complete the process, they will need to perform KYC on the Spectranet Store.

“In the event that these online steps fail, subscribers can physically go to one of the operators’ walk-in centres to have their block lifted.

“lines,” said the boss of ALTON.

The decoupling process, which began in February, was carried out in three phases.

The first phase took place on February 28, followed by the second phase on March 29.

The Nigerian Communications Commission has ordered telecommunications companies to extend the disconnection of telephone lines not linked to National Identification Numbers from April 15 to July 31.

At the original deadline on February 28, the regulator indicated that approximately 40 million lines not linked to NINs had been blocked.
