Today in Pro Wrestling History: On July 19th, 1961, just a few weeks after winning the AWA World title from Verne Gagne on July 11th, Gene Kiniski captured the AWA World Tag Team title with Hard Boiled Haggerty.

The victory meant that Kiniski now simultaneously held the Tag Title, AWA US Title, and AWA World Heavyweight Title as he established his dominance in the Minnesota territory.

NOTE: Kiniski has another very significant historical distinction. He’s the only man to hold both the NWA and AWA World Heavyweight titles.
