Telangana emerges as leader in sustainable development

Telangana scored 74 in 2023-24, a staggering five points higher than in 2020-21, making it the state most likely to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). In 2023-24, the national average score across 15 factors is 71, compared to 66 in 2020-21. The Niti Aayog on Friday released the latest SDG India Index report for 2023-24.

Telangana, Gujarat and Andhra Pradesh ranked ninth, ninth and ninth respectively in the final SDG Index report. The state received scores of 100/100 for clean and reasonably priced energy, 90/100 for good drinking water and 84/100 for adequate employment and economic growth. With a score of 91 out of 100, it was ranked second in India for poverty reduction, surpassing the national average of 72 in many categories.

Telangana was identified by Niti Aayog as a performer with scope for development in gender equality, industry, innovation and infrastructure, quality education, zero hunger and climate action. BRS Working Chairman KT Rama Rao expressed happiness over the state’s achievement and added that the SDG report clarifies the achievements of the Telangana model led by former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao. The state scored 100/100 in providing affordable and clean energy, 90/100 in providing clean drinking water and 84/100 in decent work and economic growth.
