Essex Park with 3 lakes and immense beauty, voted one of the best in the UK

These are the five Essex parks that have been named the best in the country after winning prestigious Green Flag Awards. But one of them has three lakes and immense beauty.

Clacton Seafront Gardens, Weeley Crematorium and Gardens, Cliff Park in Dovercourt and Crescent Gardens in Frinton, as well as Wivenhoe Park, were today told they have again received the award – the international quality mark for parks and green spaces.

The Green Flag scheme, awarded by Keep Britain Tidy, assesses not only the visual aspects of a site, such as its beauty, horticulture and cleanliness, but also its community involvement, access and management. It is a mark of quality.

Wivenhoe Park, located at the University of Essex in Colchester, features three lakes, 2,800 trees, car-free running tracks and 100 acres of playing fields. It has won numerous awards over the past decade and is a major draw for many students.

Mick Minshull, Head of Grounds at the University of Essex, said: “It is a fantastic achievement to have won the Green Flag Award for eight years in a row and it is something the whole team can be extremely proud of. A lot of hard work goes into maintaining and preserving Wivenhoe Park and I cannot thank my team enough for the dedication they show in ensuring it always looks its best, whatever the weather.

“The park is a real asset, not only to students and staff here at Essex, but to the whole community of Colchester. It is great to see its status consistently recognised through the Green Flag Award.”
