KIULU COMMUNITY INVITES KING AND QUEEN TO DISCOVER LOCAL CULTURE

TUARAN, July 20 (Bernama) – Residents of the small Kiulu district have expressed hope that His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim and Her Majesty Raja Zarith Sofiah, the King and Queen of Malaysia, will visit their villages and experience first-hand the natural beauty and rich cultural heritage of the predominantly Dusun ethnic community.

According to Assistant District Officer Leprus Esuvas Giswa, the people of Kiulu are extremely proud to witness the installation of Sultan Ibrahim as the 17th King of Malaysia and are eagerly awaiting the royal visit.

He said Kiulu is known for its highland tourist attractions, beautiful rivers ideal for rafting, Tagal fish conservation system and its friendly local people.

“In addition to our heritage and cultural traditions, Their Majesties can also taste various traditional dishes such as Tuhau (wild ginger dish) and Bosou (pickled river fish). I believe this will strengthen the bond between the Royal Couple and us here.

“On behalf of the people of Kiulu, I congratulate Sultan Ibrahim on his installation as the 17th King of Malaysia. The people here always pray for the well-being of the King and Queen. Daulat Tuanku!” he told Bernama.

Earlier in the day, Leprus and dozens of residents of Kampung Bungalio, located in the rural highland area of Sabah about 35 kilometres from Kota Kinabalu, watched the king’s installation ceremony through a ‘wayang pacak’ (outdoor screening) during the Jiwa Komuniti MADANI programme organised by the State Information Department.

Gulubi Guntarik, community development leader for Kiulu constituency, said Kiulu has over 70 tourism spots that showcase the natural beauty and cultural heritage of the area.

He added that Kiulu has 24 Tagal areas, which shows a symbiotic system that has been passed down through generations, providing a food source for the local people while ensuring the sustainability of the river fish in the area.

“We are ready to show the uniqueness of our village to Their Majesties and help them get to know us better,” he said.

Nurain Sumpan, 60, a resident of Kampung Bungalio, said locals were introduced to Sultan Ibrahim’s kind and caring personality through the media, with his informal interactions with the public highlighted in programmes such as Kembara Mahkota Johor.

“His Majesty has made significant contributions to the people of Johor. Therefore, we trust that the King will extend his leadership to the entire country, including Sabah. Please come to Kiulu, Your Majesty,” she said.
