RM’s second solo album is hailed as ‘Best K-Pop Album’ by Billboard

BTS’s RM’s second solo album, ‘Right Place, Wrong Person’, which was released in May, has been selected by Billboard as one of the “Best K-Pop Albums of the First Half of 2024” as chosen by their staff. Billboard stated, “RM explores his identity and emotions anew through the most ambitious album of 2024.”

Billboard further commented on ‘Right Place, Wrong Person’, calling it “an experimental musical work that sincerely shares its thoughts.” They also focused on the tracks and mentioned: “Tracks like ‘Come back to me’ and ‘Domodachi (feat. Little Simz)’ feel like spaces where RM introspects and expresses his thoughts rather than aiming for mass appeal,” add, “It sounds like he’s freely expressing all aspects of himself through this album.”

AP noted: “BTS’s thoughtful leader, RM, achieves great results every time he presents his solo work, with a philosophical and fearless spirit. On this album, he raises profound questions with music that transcends genres.”

American music media Consequence of Sound described RM’s second solo album as an “experimental album” and selected the song “Domodachi (feat. Little Simz)” as one of the “Best Songs of the First Half of 2024.”

RM’s new release was immediately praised by leading foreign media upon its release. Outlets such as NME described it as a “beautiful and interesting artistic work”, Grammy.com called it “RM’s Remarkable Solo Journey,” and Hypebeast called it “the fascinating musical journey of the leader of BTS,” all with emphasis on his musicality. With this album RM indeed ventured into the alternative genre and expanded his musical world by collaborating with artists of various styles.

‘Right Place, Wrong Person’ is about those moments when you feel like a ‘strange stranger’, and focuses on this universal emotion that everyone has felt at some point in their life. Upon its release, RM’s new album debuted at No. 5 on the Billboard 200 main albums chart, making him the first K-pop solo artist to have two consecutive works reach the top five on the chart. On the UK Official Albums Chart, it peaked at No. 37, setting a new record for solo albums.
