‘Painfully Small’ Turnout at MTG Book Signing, MAGA Fans Ignore Her

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) may be a favorite among reporters looking for a juicy quote during their coverage of the run-up to the 2024 elections, but her star has fallen when it comes to the MAGA hordes who once adored her.

On the same day that Donald Trump delivered his speech to a packed house at the recently concluded Republican National Convention, the controversial Georgia Republican planned a book signing for her book, simply called “MTG,” but few showed up, so she quickly bolted.

According to a report by Salon’s Amanda Marcotte, the under-reported transfer was a sign of Taylor Greene’s declining popularity with fans.

As she wrote: “The once-successful MAGA star faced an embarrassingly small crowd at a book signing for her book, ‘MTG.’ Just before the troll-like congresswoman was due to arrive, a group of red-clad workers were busy building large stacks of hardcovers of Greene, due out in November 2023. But only a few people with American flags had lined up.”

When the Georgia congresswoman finally showed up, there was only a short line waiting for her. Marcotte recalls, “When she finally walked in at 3 p.m., Greene took one look at the underwhelming crowd, muttered something to her entourage, and then quickly hid in a nearby room.”

As she herself noted, it got worse.

“Eventually, a few visitors came by, curious to see what the press had attracted,” Marcotte wrote. “This brought out enough people to bring Greene out of hiding. Still, as we were leaving, we saw a volunteer in a red shirt offering people free copies as bait to lure them to Greene’s table.”

Marcotte said it appeared Taylor Greene was being “reassigned” on Monday to a venue where he would speak on behalf of the RNC, “the waiting room for the figures the party least wants to put in the spotlight.”

Earlier this year, the Daily Beast reported that it’s quite possible Taylor Greene didn’t make a cent from her book, as she didn’t report any royalty income from the book.

As the Beast’s Mini Racker reported, “It’s certainly possible that Greene’s memoir didn’t sell well enough last year to make any money. Members of Congress aren’t allowed to receive advances on royalties, so they have to rely on profits from copies sold. Greene’s book came out in late November and has only a handful of reviews on Amazon dating back to before the new year.”
