India News | Enhanced security, additional counters at Kolkata metro stations for TMC rally on Sunday

Kolkata, July 20 (PTI) Additional security personnel have been deployed at four stations on the Dakshineswar-New Garia corridor of the Kolkata Metro to manage the crowd that the TMC will gather on July 21. People are expected to visit these stations in the morning and afternoon.

A total of 54 RPF policemen and personnel will be stationed at Chandni Chowk, Esplanade, Park Street and Maidan stations on the Blue Line to ensure smooth operations and prevent overcrowding issues, the Kolkata Metro said in a statement on Saturday.

From the security control room, the stations are monitored live all day via CCTV to keep crowds under control.

Several additional counters are being set up to handle the increased passenger flow: six at Esplanade, two each at Park Street, Rabindra Sadan, Kalighat, Jantin Das Park, Netaji Bhawan, Dumdum and Baranagar, and three at Dakshineswar.

East-West Corridor Metro staff will also be assisting at the Blue Line stations to ensure smooth transit.

The Blue Line will operate 130 services on Sundays as usual. Services on other corridors remain suspended.

The TMC celebrates Martyrs’ Day every year on July 21 in memory of the 13 people killed in police violence during a Youth Congress rally against the Left Front government in 1993, when Mamata Banerjee was the state Youth Congress president. Despite forming her own party in 1998, Banerjee has continued the tradition.
