Simi Valley authorities are investigating a stabbing that left a 16-year-old injured during a large fight Friday night.

The fight was reported around 10:30 p.m. in the parking lot outside the old Bed Bath & Beyond in the Regal Cinemas Plaza at 2751 Tapo Canyon Road, said Cmdr. Tim Wedemeyer of the Simi Valley Police Department.

A large group of teenagers were reportedly involved in the brawl. The parking lot is a frequent gathering place for local youth, Wedemeyer said.

The male victim suffered a single stab wound that was not considered life-threatening, Wedemeyer said. He was taken by ambulance to a local trauma center for treatment and is expected to make a full recovery.

As of Saturday morning, no suspects had been arrested. Authorities said there was no threat to the public.

The department is asking the public for help in the investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Jessica Getchius at 805-583-6914 or Officer Julio Mora at 805-583-6156.
