Hitmaker Jessie J has opened up about being diagnosed with OCD and ADHD.

The conditions are officially known as Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) – and she was diagnosed with both three months ago. The 36-year-old Price Tag singer, who is a mother of one, shared the news with her fans earlier this week, saying it made her “rethink” her whole life.

And she added that ADHD made her feel like she had a “superpower, as long as you look at it from the right perspective.” ADHD is a condition that affects people’s behavior, according to the NHS website. It can make people with the condition seem restless and they may also have trouble concentrating on tasks and act impulsively.

Meanwhile, OCD has been described by the medical website as a person with obsessive thoughts and compulsive behavior. The singer, who is known for a number of hits including her debut Do It Like A Dude and Price Tag, claimed that she became much more open about her conditions after the birth of her adorable son, Sky Safir Cornish Coleman.

In her social media post, she said: “When I told people, I often got the response ‘Yeah, I mean, we knew that’ (which I’m sure some of you are doing right now) and of course I knew to some extent, but having a baby has, let’s just say… exposed it a lot more, which has been reassuring in a way because it’s felt less heavy and scary.” She went on to say that she’s always known that she’s “been a little bit different and felt things differently” her whole life.

And she added that ADHD is a “broad spectrum.” She said, “I feel like it’s a superpower, as long as you look at it from the right perspective and have the right people around you that can navigate it with you.” She continued, “I’ve always been honest about the journey that I’m on in life. And I know there are so many people going through the same thing and I want to hold your hand, because I need to hold mine. It’s made me love myself even more. I’m embracing the 11-year-old me.”

But it didn’t stop there, as she felt compelled to share with fans: “Who cleaned her sneakers with a toothbrush when she was stressed and to this day lives with 1000 lists to not feel like life is falling apart. On to getting to know yourself even better through life. And loving yourself completely. Nothing in life defines us, but it helps us grow and become a healthier version of ourselves.”
