DC United vs Celtic LIVE as Kasper Schmeichel makes surprise appearance in Washington

It’s fair to say this place isn’t cheap. You’ll be lucky to get a beer for under $10 and even if you do, the price on the menu isn’t what it ends up being in your pocket, writes Michael Gannon.

You have to add tax to everything, and a tip too. There were a few fans in one of the trendy cocktail bars by the Wharf on Friday night and they ordered a few drinks that would have made Del Boy Trotter proud.

These things were advertised for $16, but when you throw in the extras, it was over $40 for a couple of drinks. They nearly fell off their stools – and that was before they even took a sip.

It is an expensive place, but there is also a lot of poverty. And you don’t have to look far for it.

The team also got out to meet some young soccer players – yes, not soccer guys – around town. Luis Palma helped out with a session with the Maryland State Youth Soccer Association (MSYSA), which helps kids who may not have the resources or access to the sport.

The winger even took on a team of 30 six- and seven-year-olds at one point, which could be a good warm-up for dealing with some of the low blocks the Hoops face in the Premiership.

The group travels to North Carolina today, but the portion of the tour they do in Washington DC is a hit.
