Local hair salon gives away free book bags

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – With inflation rising, many parents may need a little extra help buying school supplies for their children.

That’s why a hair salon in Columbus is helping families with school supplies.

“Hair in Motion” provided all school-going children with a free school bag, cleaning wipes and various other school supplies.

Beautician Keyunna Hogan of “Hair in Motion” said she hopes the book bag drive will help ease the stress for many families.

“We just wanted to help kids in the Macon, Columbus and Starkville area,” Hogan said. “We know some parents can’t afford to buy certain things for their kids, so we just want to help them out and give them some things that they don’t have to worry about. I think it takes a load off of them, and it’s enough to start. So they don’t have to rush to buy something at the beginning of the school year, so it’s enough to start to take some of that load off of them.”

This was the first time the salon has given out school bags. Hogan said she plans to do more events like this to help the community.
