ED is not sincere: Thomas Mapfumo…exiled musician calls for complete removal from Zanu PF

DESPITE President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s announcement that he will no longer be president after 2028, in accordance with the country’s constitution, exiled musician Thomas Mapfumo has called for a complete overhaul of Zanu PF so that Zimbabweans can be free.

In a speech to Zanu PF supporters in Mutare this month, where Mnangagwa built a fruit and water processing plant at the Mutare Teachers’ College, he said he would not serve beyond his second and final term in office.

“I’ve served my first five years, so I’m now in my last five years, which I’ll finish soon and then I’ll retire,” he said.

“We will go to Congress and choose someone who will succeed me. My days of rest are near; we will go to Congress and choose the one who will follow in my footsteps,” the president said.

Mapfumo, a critic of Mnangagwa’s rule, said citizens should not be misled by his sentiments and must fight to overthrow Zanu PF’s authority.

“Don’t listen to lies, Mnangagwa and his Zanu PF leaders are liars. They are not sincere people. “Even if Mnangagwa steps down, nothing will change, the whole party is the core problem and that must be removed.

Chiwenga (Constantino) is also on the sidelines waiting for his chance to take up his position.

“The party stinks of corruption and mismanagement. Nothing will change. They took over from Mugabe and if you ask him (Mnangagwa) why he did it and whether it helped the people, he will not answer. He only wanted power and not to benefit the people,” he said in an interview with Standard Style.

Mapfumo called on citizens to take to the streets, as that was the only way to remove Zanu PF.

“I told (Nelson) Chamisa that nothing will change if he and the people keep their mouths shut,” he said.

“All that talk about God in it won’t change the status quo. If you don’t fight back, nothing will.

“If you keep your mouth shut, Zanu PF has an advantage: they know you are afraid of them.

“People should go to the streets. Look at Kenya. They live better than Zimbabweans, but they went to the streets.”
