I have to admit that as much as I love luxury and designer fashion and everything that comes with it, from fashion month to celebrity style, the high street is my heart. Apart from the occasional splurge purchase (and believe me there have been quite a few), my wardrobe is made up of 75% high street purchases, with the likes of Mango and Zara making up the majority.

Although my wardrobe may be a bit more affordable, I still want to exude that polished, expensive look, so over the years I’ve become an expert at selecting pieces that not only cost way more than their price tag, but that you’re also unlikely to see on just anyone. After all, there’s nothing worse than turning up to the office or a summer wedding and finding three people wearing the same blouse, dress or jumpsuit as you (a pitfall that’s much more likely when you’re shopping on the high street).

The key is to opt for quality fabrics, clean silhouettes and intricate detailing, all of which are now widely available on the high street. But that doesn’t mean you have to go minimalist, while understated luxe-inspired pieces are certainly one way to look expensive, there are also a host of printed styles that will channel that eclectic but expensive Euro summer or lost in LA look, without sacrificing any of the fun.
