Man United trio injured with ‘minor’ problems to miss Rangers match

Man United played their second pre-season match yesterday, against Rangers at Murrayfield stadium in Edinburgh. There were a few notable absentees though.

Manchester United’s 2023/24 season has been a forgettable one, largely due to injuries that have decimated the squad, leaving Erik ten Hag almost powerless at times.

The Old Trafford club lost players in key positions for extended periods of time, and it is a miracle that the campaign ended with an FA Cup trophy win.

You would think that United would be over the worst in that regard, but the club have confirmed that there are concerns about a number of injuries.

United have suffered a triple injury blow, with three players missing due to ‘minor annoyances’. Marcus Rashford, Antony and Victor Lindelof were all absent from today’s game against Rangers.

It is wise to be cautious at this stage. The last thing you want is to cause serious long-term problems by putting a player at risk before his body is ready to go again.

For Antony and Victor Lindelof, this pre-season has been about regularly forcing their way into the manager’s plans. Both may now only be seen as bit-part players, with others now ahead of them in the pecking order in their respective positions.

As for Rashy, it’s about proving to everyone that he’s still a top-level footballer. His 2023/24 campaign was pretty disastrous, both on and off the pitch. He had attitude issues that were questioned, while his performances on the pitch were sub-par. I’d like to think that his rejection from England reignited that fire in his belly.

It doesn’t look like these minor issues will stop the boys from taking part in the US leg of the tour, which starts next week.

Get well soon, guys!
