Rotary Club Kilmarnock makes thoughtful donation to Crosshouse Children’s Fund

The Rotary Club of Kilmarnock has donated £500 to the Crosshouse Children’s Fund, the charity for babies and children in hospital in Ayrshire.

The Rotary Club was inspired to donate after the care one of their members’ granddaughters received in the children’s ward at University Hospital Crosshouse. The club also received a presentation from fellow Rotarian and charity director, Drew Hughes.

President George English and Kilmarnock Rotary member Dr Robin Magee were given a tour of the children’s ward and met Crosshouse Play Specialist, Michelle Dodds. They were inspired by the stories of some of the hospital’s patients who have benefited from charity-funded activities.

George said: “The tour we were given of the children’s ward brought the matter to light. One of the granddaughters of one of our members recently needed treatment and the Crosshouse Children’s Fund is clearly a very worthy charity to support.

“We meet regularly with the other Rotary clubs of Ayrshire and we are the club for the town where the hospital is located.”

Kilmarnock is one of the local Rotary clubs that Crosshouse Children’s Fund supports, along with other clubs such as Ayr, Prestwick, Troon, Irvine and Hunterston.

George added: “Rotary’s slogan is ‘Service above Self’.

“Throughout our history, we have supported health-related causes, such as our campaign to end polio now, and this is a continuation of that theme.
