The Range in McKinney: McKinney’s Best Kept Secret

The Range in McKinney: McKinney’s Best Kept Secret

A lifelong love of the shooting sports is what led Julie and Thom Beyer to open The Range at McKinney in 2022, located at 415 Industrial Blvd. The Range at McKinney is a welcoming space for shooters of all levels.

Many local shooting ranges have the problem of being too loud and not providing a pleasant experience for those who walk in. The Beyers wanted to make sure that wasn’t the case at The Range in McKinney. Instead, they opted for a clean, open space where people can watch the action on TV or browse the shopping area and gun store.

“The whole idea was that we would create a range that everyone would feel comfortable in. Every day, new customers come into The Range and are really surprised at how beautiful it is, and ask for a tour, which we are happy to give them,” Julie said. “In fact, after being open for over a year and a half, we still have people come in and tell us they didn’t know we were here. It’s like we’re the best kept secret in McKinney.”

The Range at McKinney is a 25,000-square-foot shooting sports facility featuring 18 climate-controlled, lead-filtered shooting lanes, classrooms with certified instructors teaching permit shooting, and a diverse program of training and private lessons geared toward students from beginners to advanced.

The Range emphasizes the Four Rules of Gun Safety and has posted them in many locations to remind all members and guests:

  1. Always treat the weapon as if it is loaded.
  2. Never point your gun at something you don’t intend to shoot.
  3. Keep your finger off the trigger until you are ready to shoot.
  4. Know what’s happening behind and beyond your goal.

The Range in McKinney offers firearms rentals including pistols, revolvers, rifles, and shotguns for all ages and skill levels. They even have an event planner for the perfect party. Need a place for your church safety team or group to qualify or train? Look no further. The Range in McKinney also offers free informational classes.

The Range in McKinney recently introduced Friday Night Lights, a weekly changing theme focused on low light.

“Training is our focus, and having people shoot in different light levels is a fun way to train,” Julie said. “It was so popular with our clients that we expanded it from just Fridays to every day.”

If you are shooting in low light, you can use flashlights and blacklight targets and do range movements and target practice.

“A lot of people can stand and shoot, but have never tried to move and shoot,” Thom said. “We have the training, instructors and shooting ranges to teach this skill. It’s not only challenging, it’s really fun.”
