HOUSTON COUNTY, Ala. (WDHN) — A Dothan woman was jailed this week after a Houston County grand jury indicted her on multiple counts of insurance fraud.

In early June, Allison Dawn Benton Davis, 53, was charged with nine counts of first-degree insurance fraud and two counts of second-degree insurance fraud.

Davis is charged on 11 counts alleging she defrauded local insurance companies, a Houston County community college and other local businesses out of approximately $77,000.

The Houston County Sheriff’s Office tells WDHN that an investigation into Davis’ alleged fraud was launched around 2022, but was soon after turned over to the Alabama Department of Insurance.

Houston County Jail records show Davis turned herself in on Wednesday, July 24, six weeks after the charges were filed. She was released on $150,000 bail nearly an hour after her arrest.
