Where UNC Basketball Talent Ranks in 2023-24 NBA Earnings

Coby White. Cam Johnson. Harrison Barnes. Cole Anthony. Of the nine UNC basketball products on any kind of NBA contract last season — not counting Walker Kessler, who left the program after a year — these are the only four who averaged double figures in points last season. And none of them topped 20 points per game.

While Coby White now has genuine All-Star potential after his best season with the Chicago Bulls at just 24 years old (except perhaps 28-year-old Cam Johnson), it would be a stretch to say the same for the other NBA Tar Heels of 2023-2024.

While it’s surprising that UNC’s basketball team isn’t among the top programs in the NBA these days when it comes to developing top talent, it should come as no surprise that the Tar Heels’ combined league revenue of approximately $76 million last season ranked just 15th among all college programs.

According to the following breakdown of the College Basketball Report’s top 80, UNC’s product revenue ranks third among ACC schools, behind 2nd Duke with $277 million and 9th Florida State with $100 million.

UNC’s total number of active NBA players appears to remain about the same next season. Harrison Ingram, a second-round pick of the San Antonio Spurs, is likely the only rookie slated to come out of Chapel Hill, and there’s always the chance that one or more of the Tar Heels who were on two-way or minimum contracts last round don’t end up on a 2024-25 roster somewhere.
