Namaaz not allowed in Kerala college, political unrest over student unrest

Kochi city. In a church college near Muvattupuzha in Kerala, a protest was held on the campus after students were not allowed to offer namaz. The college management had not given permission to offer namaz on the campus. This led to a controversy. On the other hand, BJP and Catholic church organisations objected to the students’ protest against not being allowed to offer namaz.

According to information, a group of students protested at Nirmala College on Friday alleging that the non-teaching staff had prevented some female students from performing namaz in a room of the institute on Friday. In the video of the protest aired by some local channels, the students alleged that the college staff did not allow them to perform namaz for several days. The students have also demanded an apology from the principal.

‘Divisive forces must be eradicated’
The church body has strongly objected to the students’ protest. The Catholic Congress, affiliated with the Syro-Malabar Church, condemned the protest and said that such divisive forces should be rooted out. At the same time, BJP leader PC George termed the protest within the university as objectionable. He wondered whether a Muslim university would give rooms to Hindus or Christians for prayers? The BJP alleged that some people are trying to create problems in educational institutions run by Hindu and Christian communities.

SFI responded
Kerala BJP president K Surendran alleged that some people were trying to intimidate the principal of the college for not offering namaz. Extremists were behind such acts. He alleged that such people were supported by the Left and Congress parties. Meanwhile, the SFI, the student wing of the ruling Communist Party of India (Marxist), said that Sangh Parivar organisations were trying to blame it for the protests on the college campus. SFI state secretary PM Arsho said that the organisation was not part of any protest.
