Zamfara government pays N7.3 billion in gratuities to retired civil servants

The Zamfara State Government says it has paid the sum of N7.3 billion in gratuities to retired local government and state government employees in the state

The Special Assistant to the Governor on Media and Publicity, Sulaiman Idris, made this known in a statement issued in Gusau on Thursday.

Idris said the state government in January set up a committee to verify the unpaid bonuses of workers who retired between 2015 and 2024, and LG retirees who retired between 2012 and 2019.

He said the government had paid a total of N7.3 billion in gratuities to the former civil servants, spread over seven instalments.

“The state government is determined to clear the arrears of over N13 billion in gratuities owed by retired LG and state government servants,” he said.

Idris said the former workers have been facing problems for years as their pension benefits have not been paid by the previous governments in the state.

“The administration of Governor Lawal will continue to work towards revamping the civil service in Zamfara to improve efficiency and effectiveness,” he said. (NAN).
