RFK Jr. VP Pick Stresses She’s Not a ‘Trump Republican’

Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s ex running mate Nicole Shanahan insisted she is not a “Trump Republican” after their ticket endorsed the former president Donald Trump.

Shanahan joined NewsNation’s Chris Cuomo Monday to discuss Kennedy’s support, which followed a steady decline in the polls for a campaign that Shanahan admitted she essentially self-financed.

Kennedy’s former vice presidential nominee, a longtime Democratic Party donor, made it clear to Cuomo that she feels no loyalty to Trump or the vice president Kamala Harris is people. She argued that the approval is based on “ideas, not people.”

“I’m not a Kamala Democrat, nor am I a Trump Republican. What I am is an independent American who is laser-focused on the issues. What we did on Friday was amazing because we bridged the gap. We found someone who was willing to put these ideas front and center,” she said.

Two of the issues Shanahan insisted Kennedy and Trump agreed on were “chronic health issues” and “food ceiling economic policy,” the latter referring to Harris promising to implement a federal ban on overpricing in the food industry. Also among the “key issues” uniting the Kennedy-Trump coalition, Shanahan said, are “free speech,” being anti-war and supporting “no more censorship.”

Cuomo asked Shanahan how she could be “so confident” that Trump would take Kennedy and her seriously “so quickly” after the endorsement, and Shanahan argued that Trump has “really good people around him” and that he listened to Kennedy.

“This is not that we are being incorporated into the Trump camp in any way. This is a partnership,” she said.

Trump’s campaign acknowledged Tuesday that Kennedy has joined the former president’s transition team as an honorary chairman.
