Adele says she’s taking a ‘break’ after her residency ends

Adele is preparing her fans for an upcoming “long” break from new music and performances.

In recent years, the singer has been busy performing to adoring crowds at her residency shows across the U.S. and abroad. On August 31, Adele wrapped up her residency in Munich, Germany, delivering an emotional speech to the crowd about taking a much-needed break.

In a video of her final performance in Munich, posted by fans on social media, the 36-year-old thanked her fans for coming to her show.

“I’m not the most comfortable performer, I know, but I’m really f—ing good at it,” she said. “And I’ve really enjoyed performing for almost three years now, which is the longest time I’ve ever done it and probably the longest time I ever will.”

Her Munich concerts were supposed to be her last performances of the year, but her Las Vegas concerts were moved from March to November earlier this year.

“I have exactly five more weeks of shows,” Adele said onstage. “But after that, I’m not going to see you for an incredibly long time. And I’m going to hold you in my heart for the entire length of my break. And I’m going to fantasize about these shows and all the shows I’ve done over the last three years.”

She stressed that her residency performances hold a special place in her heart.

“It’s been great. I just need some rest,” she explained as the crowd cheered. “I’ve spent the last seven years building a new life for myself, and I want to live it now.”

The Grammy winner got emotional as she said she wanted to focus on her personal life. Adele has an 11-year-old son named Angelo. She is also rumored to be engaged to her great love Rich Paul.

“I will miss you terribly,” she told the audience.

TODAY.com has reached out to Adele’s representatives for comment.

In an interview with German media ZDF in July, Adele said she wanted to take a break from music and the stage.

“I have no plans for new music at all,” she revealed at the time, according to a translation by Variety. “I want to have a big break after this and I think I want to do other creative things, but for a while.”

Adele has not released new music since her fourth album, “30,” which was released in November 2021. Her residency began a year later, in November 2022.

While fans will have to wait a little longer before hearing from her again, the singer revealed in January that she plans to eventually produce a new album.

“I just don’t think I’m going to write an album for a while,” she said onstage earlier this year, according to a clip shared on X. “But the next time I do, I’m coming to wherever you live.”
