Steelers News: Pittsburgh to Make Final Decision on Russell Wilson on Sunday

The Steelers quarterback situation is still uncertain heading into game day. According to a report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter, starting quarterback Russell Wilson told the team he will be able to play in Week 1 against the Atlanta Falcons. However, team doctors are still being cautious and Pittsburgh will wait until Sunday to make a decision.

Wilson missed much of training camp with a stiff calf and re-aggravated the injury before the Week 1 game. Mike Tomlin said Thursday that the injury had no impact on the Steelers’ game plan, but recent reports suggest Justin Fields will start against Atlanta.

If Wilson isn’t 100 percent but can still start, the Steelers still have a decision to make. The team’s offensive line has struggled this preseason, meaning starting a veteran quarterback with a lower-body injury is questionable at best.

If Russell Wilson does not play on Sunday, Justin Fields will start for the black and gold team in Atlanta.
