Tropical impacts expected this week

JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) – All eyes are on the tropics in this First Alert forecast.

The tropics have warmed up and a system is forecast to move in this direction by Wednesday evening. The impact will be heavy rainfall, leading to flash flooding and gusty winds. Wind gusts could reach 50 mph, while total rainfall could quickly reach 6 inches in some areas. If this system moves west of the area, there could also be a low tornado risk. The tropical storm is currently expected to move directly over the region starting Wednesday evening and clearing out by Friday morning.

The rest of our forecast looks good, with highs slightly below average (low to mid 80s) heading into the weekend. Rain chances will return toward the end of the weekend and early next week.
