Waffle recall prompts warning in 14 states

Kodiak Cakes LLC has voluntarily recalled boxes of Buttermilk and Vanilla Waffles due to the possible presence of “soft plastic wrap.”

In a notice last week, Kodiak said Costco members in the Midwest region should return the Kodiak Power Waffles Buttermilk & Vanilla 40-Counter with a best-by date of Jan. 10, 2026. The affected waffles have a lot code of 24193-WL4 and a time stamp of 12:00-23:00, along with UPC number 705599019203. The affected waffles are being voluntarily recalled “due to the potential presence of soft plastic wrap,” Kodiak said in the notice.

Kodiak said that as of Aug. 26, no injuries had been reported in connection with the recall and that no other Kodiak products were affected. According to the Costco Wholesale website, the Midwest region includes Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota, Tennessee and Wisconsin.

Affected customers are urged to call Kodiak at 801-328-4067 with additional questions or email [email protected]. Kodiak also noted, “The quality, safety and integrity of our products is our highest priority at Kodiak. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you and appreciate your cooperation in this matter.”

In addition to the Kodiak Cakes waffles, numerous products have been recalled in the past month due to possible lead contamination, undeclared allergens and possible mold growth. Cinnamon products in particular have been recalled nationwide due to fears of possible lead contamination.

Authentik Fudge of Canada also issued a recall in August for hundreds of units of its Chocolate Fudge with Nuts branded MONTREAL FUDGE due to possible mold contamination. The affected fudge was sold in Marshalls and TJ Maxx stores in select U.S. states, according to a news release from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

The FDA noted the lot numbers and expiration dates for the affected product in its release, and said that as of Aug. 22, no other products were affected by the recall and no illnesses had been reported. The recall was initiated after a customer reported “mold pieces” in the box and additional products at the manufacturing site showed “early signs of mold,” the FDA said.
